Foreigner killed after crashing motorcycle along Jln Datuk Bandar Mustapha in Kuching

KUCHING, Sept 24: A 43-year-old foreigner perished while riding a high-powered motorcycle along Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha here yesterday (Sept 23).

In a statement issued today, Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident, which happened at around 9.30pm, involved a car and the motorcycle that the victim was riding.

“The car was about to turn into the junction on the right and was hit by the motorcycle moving straight from the opposite direction.

“The motorcyclist sustained injuries to his head and was confirmed dead by medical personnel at the emergency ward at approximately 11.35pm at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said.

He added that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 involving the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and carries imprisonment for up to ten years with a fine of up to RM50,000 if convicted.

“Anyone who has information on the accident is requested to come forward to assist in the investigation or contact traffic investigating officer Insp Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068 or the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 082-259900.

“Alternatively, you may also come to the nearest police station,” he said. — DayakDaily
