MUKAH, Dec 18: A foreign national wanted by the police for his suspected involvement in the murder of a palm oil plantation worker, was apprehended yesterday (Dec 17) afternoon.
In a news report by TVS, Mukah District Police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias comfirmed took place at 4.15pm during “Ops Kesan”, a police operation conducted by a team from the Mukah District Police Headquarters at an oil palm plantation.
“When the police team encountered the suspect, he attempted to flee, and minimal force had to be used during the arrest,” he said in a statement today.
The suspect had been hiding about five kilometres from the scene before his location was successfully tracked down.
“We also seized the weapon and clothing used during the incident. A urine test showed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” he added.
Following the arrest, the Mukah Magistrate’s Court granted a seven-day remand for the suspect, starting today. He was brought to court at about 9am this morning.
The incident, which took place on Dec 15, involved a 29-year-old foreign national who died after a quarrel, stemming from a misunderstanding, at a workers’ house on the plantation.
The victim succumbed to severe injuries caused by multiple hacking blows with a sharp object, resulting in wounds to the neck and abdomen.
The suspect, another foreign national, fled the scene following the incident but was subsequently tracked down by the police.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. —DayakDaily
