MIRI, Jan 8: A 27-year-old foreign national has been arrested in Miri on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.
The arrest was confirmed by Miri District police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, following an operation conducted by the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) of Miri District Police Headquarters.
The raid took place on Jan 6 at a shophouse in the Permyjaya Miri, Sarawak.
During the operation, officers seized 30 grammes of substances believed to be methamphetamine and detained one male suspect at the scene.
The suspect is set to appear at the Miri Court Complex for a remand hearing as investigations proceed.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties upon conviction, including life imprisonment or a minimum of five years’ imprisonment and a mandatory minimum of 10 strokes of the cane.
The Miri District Police have urged the public to assist in the fight against drug trafficking by reporting any suspicious activities to their nearest police station. — DayakDaily
