KUCHING, June 17: Sarawak Water will continue flushing operations and enhanced monitoring activities across affected areas despite ongoing complaints of discoloured or murky water, as the utility reports significant improvement in supply conditions and a continued decline in complaint trends.

In a statement today, Sarawak Water said it has intensified mitigation efforts since issuing an update on June 6, 2026, following an increase in reports of discoloured water in several parts of the Kuching Division.

Operational and technical teams have since stepped up flushing works and field monitoring to support the recovery and stabilisation of the water distribution system.

“Latest monitoring indicates positive progress, with water supply conditions in most affected areas showing significant improvement. Complaint trends have also declined compared to the previous week,” the utility said.

Sarawak Water explained that the discoloured or murky water is believed to have been caused by the disturbance of sediments within sections of the distribution network. This occurred following changes in water flow patterns and ongoing system stabilisation activities.

It stressed that the issue is not linked to any failure at the Batu Kitang water treatment plant, which continues to operate and be closely monitored as normal.

While conditions are improving, Sarawak Water said it will maintain flushing operations and monitoring activities until the distribution system is fully stabilised and water quality is restored to a satisfactory level.

The utility reiterated its commitment to providing a safe, reliable and quality water supply, while expressing regret over the inconvenience caused and thanking consumers for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the period. — DayakDaily
