KUCHING, June 17: An elderly man who was found unconscious during a house fire at Lorong Stutong Baru has unfortunately died despite being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred yesterday (June 16) at about 7.05pm, when police received a public alert regarding a fire involving a residential unit in the area.
Acting on the information, personnel from the Sg. Maong Police Station, led by the station chief, together with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, were immediately deployed to the scene to carry out rescue and investigation efforts.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the fire affected the upper floor of the house. An elderly man, aged 71, was discovered unconscious at the scene and was subsequently rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
“However, hospital authorities later confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at 8.30pm,” he said in a statement today.
Alexson disclosed that initial investigations found no elements of criminal activity in the case.
“The incident has been classified as a sudden death report, while investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing by the Fire and Rescue Department,” he added.

Police have also advised the public against speculation, stressing the need to respect the sensitivity of the victim’s family and to avoid disrupting ongoing investigations. – DayakDaily
