Five more medical staff confirmed positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, Jan 26: Five more medical staff from healthcare facilities across Sarawak have been infected with Covid-19.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed today that there were three medical staff in Sibu and two medical staff in Sarikei who were among the 205 new Covid-19 cases reported in the state today.


State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing told DayakDaily yesterday that a total of 53 medical staff in four hospitals across Sarawak had tested positive for Covid-19 since January 1, and that more than 50 per cent of them were from Sibu Hospital.

On Jan 19, Dr Chin revealed that 13 staff from Sibu Hospital had tested positive for Covid-19.

On Jan 22, he said a total of 20 staff at Miri Hospital also had been confirmed positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile today, Uggah who is the Deputy Chief Minister revealed that Sarawak had three more fatalities due to Covid-19 in Sibu and 205 new infections in total.

He revealed the cases were derived from Sibu (51), Kanowit (41), Miri (32), Dalat (22), Bintulu (19), Kuching (10), Kapit (5), Lawas (5), Julau (5), Sarikei (4), Simunjan (3), Pakan (2), Betong (2), Meradong (2), Samarahan (2), Saratok (1) and Marudi (1). — DayakDaily
