Covid-19: Sarawak hit by 3 more fatalities, 205 infections

KUCHING, Jan 26: Sarawak registered three more Covid-19 fatalities in Sibu and 205 new infections today.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the new cases were derived from Sibu (51), Kanowit (41), Miri (32), Dalat (22), Bintulu (19), Kuching (10), Kapit (5), Lawas (5), Julau (5), Sarikei (4), Simunjan (3), Pakan (2), Betong (2), Meradong (2), Samarahan (2), Saratok (1) and Marudi (1).


With thus, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 3,704.

The three new fatalities brings the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak to 33.

“The 31st case of death involved a 59-year-old man who sought treatment in Sibu Hospital on January 22 as he experienced fever and cough.

“The 32nd case of death involved a 76-year-old man who sought treatment at Sibu Hospital on January 22 who experienced shortness of breath, fever and cough.

“The 33rd case of death involved a 91-year-old man who sought treatment at Sibu Hospital on January 24 after being found unconscious by family members,” Uggah told the daily press conference to give updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak here today.

Sibu has reported a total of 10 deaths due to Covid-19 in the past four days including today.

Meanwhile, there were 142 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from hospitals.

Despite that, a total of 1,706 patients are still being treated for the coronavirus in seven hospitals throughout Sarawak.

There were 230 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases while 27 PUI cases are awaiting laboratory test results for their Covid-19 swab tests. —DayakDaily
