SIBU, 7 Dec: Five individuals including three Indonesian nationals have been detained for allegedly stealing oil palm fresh fruit bunch (FFB) from a commercial estate in Kanowit.

Kanowit district police chief, Supt Tega Bilong, said his assistant investigating officer Anthony Denis had, on December 5, called up two local men, 31 and 51, pertaining to a theft of oil palm fresh fruit bunch.

“The duo later led to the police to the estate site to arrest the three Indonesians aged, 24, 25 and 33, at 8.05pm yesterday,” he said.

Tega said the assistant manager of the estate had earlier, at about 2.30pm on Dec 5, received a call from the auxiliary policeman saying that he had caught three Indonesians for stealing the FFB from the estate.

The auxiliary policeman had also seized a four-wheel drive from them, which was ladened with the stolen FFB.

“Our investigation revealed that as the estate is located just next to a smallholder estate. The duo took the opportunity to encroach and steal the FFB,” Tega said.

He added that the five suspects will be remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The three Indonesians were found without any travelling document.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6(1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for illegal entry into the state. — DayakDaily
