KUCHING, Aug 4: All members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) are reminded to maintain a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 30 or risk being ineligible for promotions and awards, including the Excellent Service Award (APC).

Director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad reminded all Bomba members to maintain a BMI below the threshold as part of efforts to ensure they remain healthy, fit, and ready to take on challenging and high-risk assignments.

“This initiative is part of the department’s efforts to ensure that our personnel stay healthy and physically capable,” he said, as reported by TVS.

“We are actively addressing BMI issues among our members and working to reduce it gradually. To me, this is a long-term investment because the fitness level of our personnel directly impacts the department’s performance,” he told reporters after attending the Fire Services Medal Award Ceremony here today.

Nor Hisham also voiced concern over the physical fitness levels of the new generation of personnel compared to their predecessors.

“If we look at it, the older generation was more exposed to physically demanding work and actively involved in sports, while the younger generation seems to need more encouragement to participate in physical activities and sports,” he remarked.

During the ceremony, 23 personnel received the Pingat Cemerlang Bomba (PCB), nine were awarded the Pingat Setia Bomba (PSB), and one received the Pingat Jasa Bomba (PJB). — DayakDaily
