Fires ravage Kampung Stenggang house, Betong wood factory’s workers’ quarters

BAU, April 2: A fire engulfed a house in Kampung Stenggang near SK St Teresa this afternoon, causing damage to two motorcycles and a car.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency at 12.34pm and promptly dispatched a team of firefighters from the Bau Station to the scene.

Fortunately, all residents evacuated safely, with no reported injuries.


At press time, efforts to extinguish the fire are still underway which will be followed by necessary overhauling works to ensure the safety of the site.

In a separate incident, a fire engulfed the workers’ quarters of a wood factory at Batu Api L.D Betong this morning.

Bomba Betong Station, which responded to the emergency at 8.49am, confirmed that three residents escaped unharmed, while two Indonesian workers were not there during the fire.

Firefighters successfully doused the flames using water from a nearby drain by 9.30am.

Subsequent overhauling operations were carried out to eliminate potential ignition sources and the entire operation concluded by 10.11am. — DayakDaily
