KUCHING, Jan 3: Firefighters used buckets to scoop water from a shallow drain in Kampung Hulu Sungai Bintawa on Jalan Demak to extinguish a fire that completely destroyed an unoccupied house today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency at 12.24pm and swiftly mobilised firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations to the location.

However, the Bomba teams faced challenges reaching the site due to the narrow road which is only passable by small vehicles.

Consequently, firefighters switched to a 4WD vehicle to transport mobile pumps and other equipment to the location.

Despite this effort, they faced difficulty deploying the pump as the water source from the open drainage was too shallow.

They resorted to using buckets to scoop water from the drain and successfully extinguished the flames. The operation concluded at 2.07pm.

The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are currently under investigation. — DayakDaily
