Firefighters evacuate 11 stranded students, teachers after flood hits SJKC Yong Seng in Sibu

KUCHING, March 20: A total of 11 individuals from SJKC Yong Seng, Sibu were evacuated after they were trapped by floods this morning.

According to a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the road to the school (from the main road to Stabau) was cut off with floodwaters rising to approximately one and half feet deep, or just below knee-level.

Upon arrival at the scene at 10.18am, the team from Sibu Jaya fire station found that small vehicles could not pass through the road except for heavy vehicles or 4×4, leaving students and staffs stranded at the school.

Using a fire truck and a 4×4 Triton vehicle, the Bomba team safely evacuated the flood victims, which included five students, five teachers, and one school clerk.

All victims were moved to a safer location. After ensuring that the situation was safe and under control, the team returned to the station. – DayakDaily
