Fire safety efforts in Long Atip boosted by formation of 3 Bomba Community units

Participants received hands-on experience during their training in the one-day Basic Fire Safety and Fighting training programme in Long Atip, Baram.

MIRI, Feb 9: The recent Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Basic Fire Safety and Fighting training programme in Long Atip in Baram led to the successful formation of three Bomba Community (Komuniti Bomba) units for the area.

In a statement today, the department revealed that the three units — Bomba Community Long Atip A, B and C — formed comprised a total of 48 villagers from the Long Atip area.

The training programme was organised by Zone 6 (Miri) Bomba, on Feb 8 (Saturday) and the training given was based on theory and also practicality, covering modules such as the objective, function, and scope of Bomba Community.

The participants were briefed about firefighting skills, good housekeeping, building management, rescue processes, and the “KampungKu” insurance policy, as well as took part in fire extinguishing demonstrations.

Apart from that, 30 fire extinguisher units courtesy of the federal government was also handed over to Long Atip village head Wilson Anyie during the Fire Point programme followed by a fire safety inspection by Bomba in the respective longhouses.

Among the speakers during the programme was Bomba Marudi chief PpgB Maureen Sim, Zone 6 Bomba Public Awareness Officer PpgB Francis Aceh, and PB Disun Jok from Bomba Lopeng. — DayakDaily
