KUCHING, April 13: A fire broke out near the rooftop on the upper floor of a shoplot located at Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, resulting in the destruction of a file and document storage area.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to an emergency at 2.15pm today. It swiftly mobilised firefighters from the Padungan Station and assisted a team from the Tabuan Station to the location.
The fire destroyed the storage facility, while another two adjacent units sustained water and smoke damage.
Apart from extinguishing the flames, firefighters also opened up part of the roofing to ventilate the thick smoke.
By nearly 7pm, the flames were successfully extinguished, though efforts to cool and ventilate the affected area are still underway.
The firefighters concluded the operation after ensuring the site’s safety and eliminating any potential sources of ignition.
Earlier, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng visited the site to assess the impact of the fire. — DayakDaily
