
SRI AMAN, Sept 16: A mid-morning fire razed a five-unit workers’ quarters in Melugu estate at Jalan Melugu Hilir, leaving three Indonesian workers with only the clothes on their back.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement said 10 firefighters led by Sri Aman fire station chief PPgB William Baheng rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert at 9.42am today.
The fire destroyed the 100 x 40 feet non-permanent structure which served as the workers’ quarters.
Firefighters managed to put the blaze out with open water sources from a nearby drain.
Of the five units, only one was occupied by three workers.
No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated. — DayakDaily
