KUCHING, Aug 11: A fire broke out at a house in Lorong Foochow 1W, Taman Orchid, here today, damaging an estimated 80 per cent of the property.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 2.15pm today, and firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station were deployed with assistance from the Batu Lintang and Padungan stations.
It was noted that the affected permanent-structure house measured approximately 30 feet by 60 feet.
The kitchen of another house located behind the affected property sustained an estimated 15 per cent damage after being exposed to heat from the fire.
A total of 21 firefighters and three Fire Rescue Tenders (FRTs) were involved in the operation.
The firefighting team used four water lines and six nozzles, with 200 feet of hose connected to a fire hydrant. Firefighters also established a firebreak using a defensive technique.
The fire was brought under control at 3.02pm, while the operation ended at 6.25pm after the situation was declared safe and under control.
Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Sesco also assisted in the operation, with six PDRM personnel and three Sesco personnel at the scene.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong were also present at the scene. — DayakDaily
