Fined RM10,000 for possessing 428 turtle eggs

KUCHING, July 9: The Sessions Court here fined an unemployed man RM10,000 for possessing 428 turtle eggs.

Mohd Faizal Yakub, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge framed.


Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff accepted his guilty plea and convicted him before sentencing him to a fine of RM10,000 or in default to 1-month’s imprisonment.

The accused was charged with illegally possessing 438 turtle eggs (Chelonidae), a totally protected animal under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 at Pasar Tamu Kubah Ria, on September 7, 2019 at about 3.04pm.

He was charged under Section 29(1) of the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 which is punishable under Section 29(1)(c) of the same Ordinance.

He was arrested by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Kuching raid team.
