Man sentenced to 40 months’ jail for assaulting father and wife with wooden stick

KUCHING, March 27: A man who went on a rampage and assaulted his father and wife with a wooden stick has been sentenced to 20 months in prison by the Sessions Court here.

Kamri Kamil, 46, pleaded guilty after he was charged with two counts, each under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code.


The aforementioned sections stipulate a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties upon conviction.

Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi decreed that Kamri be sentenced to 20 months in prison for each charge brought against him and ordered that the sentences run concurrently.

Based on the case facts, Kamri went on a rampage at a house in Kampung Lidah Tanah, Siniawan, Bau, on Jan 19, 2024, around 10pm.

During the incident, Kamri assaulted his 34-year-old wife by hitting her left shoulder and also struck his 68-year-old father on the head with a wooden stick.

Subsequently, Kamri’s father was taken to Sarawak General Hospital by ambulance for treatment, while Kamri’s wife lodged a police report for further action.

Kamri was subsequently arrested on the same night, and the police also confiscated the wooden stick used by Kamri to injure the victims.

Investigations revealed that Kamri’s wife was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries on her left shoulder, while his father was confirmed to have suffered torn skin on his left scalp, in addition to soft tissue injuries on his left hand.

It is understood that the victims were unaware of the reason behind Kamri’s actions.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Fauzan Zamri prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
