SPAOH, Feb 26: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been urged to find ways to speed up the construction of two road projects here namely the Ulu Paku-Ulu Gerenjang-Ulu Krian-Ulu Kota Road and the Penom-Ulu Bayor-Danau Road.

Both are currently in Phase 1 of the construction process.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah has expressed concerns over the delays in their completion with Ulu Paku-Ulu Gerenjang-Ulu Krian-Ulu Kota Road being 29 per cent behind schedule, while the Penom-Ulu Bayor-Danau Road is delayed by 45 per cent.

“The 6.92km Ulu Paku-Ulu Gerenjang-Ulu Krian-Ulu Kota Road road costing RM15.2 million was initially scheduled to be completed on Oct 13, 2021. Then it was rescheduled to March 27 this year.

“For the second project involving 7.4km from Penom to Danau and costing RM9.9 million, it was initially scheduled to be completed on April 30, 2021 but was revised to Feb 22, 2022,” he said in a statement after visiting the sites of the two road projects here today.

Uggah informed that among the reasons for the delay were insufficient machinery at the sites, bad weather and termination of the sub-contractors for poor performance.

With that, he has directed the JKR to come up with solutions for the respective contractors to catch up on the delays.

Later, Uggah who is Bukit Saban Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) branch chairman, also officiated at the joint triennial delegate conference (TDC) of PBB Brutan Ulu and Brutan Ili sub branches.

In his speech, he reminded the people to continue to be vigilant and observe all Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

“Although we have seen single to double digit cases for quite a while since last year to early this year, the figures are slowly increasing now.

“We must continue to be on guard despite having received our vaccination and booster jabs. We must persist in observing physical distance, wearing face masks and avoiding all crowded places.

“Now the government is giving the vaccine jabs to our children below 12-years-old. Parents must make full use of this opportunity to protect their young ones,” he advised.

Meanwhile, Uggah is expected to officiate at the TDC of PBB sub branches of Kampung Tengah Spaoh tomorrow morning and Kampung Penan Spaoh in the afternoon at the Spaoh Community Hall. ā€” DayakDaily
