KUCHING, Feb 26: A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Transport (MOT) will visit Bario next Monday (Feb 28) to look into the feasibility of improving the runway at Bario Airport.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Dato Gerawat Gala said the end goal was to increase number of passengers at any one time.
“There is an issue of the limited number of seats that regional airline MASwings allows for the flights to Bario, Long Seridan and Long Banga.
“Although MASwings has 19 seats, they can only take eight or nine passengers (at any one time). This is an ongoing issue that I am taking up with the MOT at both Federal and State levels,” he said when speaking at Appreciation and New Year Thanksgiving Dinner 2022 held at Pullman Hotel last night.
Gerawat who is also Mulu assemblyman further mentioned that he had recently met with Federal Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong in Miri to discuss over this matter.
“Following that, I was told that on Feb 28th, the delegation from MOT together with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) are going to Bario to look at the situation and see how they could improve the runway so that MASwings can optimise their seating capacity,” he added. — DayakDaily
