MIRI, April 30: The Miri Malay Association’s (PMM) Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house this morning was graced with the presence of a deputy minister of the federal unity government as well as a minister and two deputy ministers from the Sarawak government.
Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus who was representing Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Sarawak’s unity and racial harmony have been growing stronger over the years which makes it unique in Malaysia.
“We are grateful that Sarawak remains peaceful and harmonious because of the high tolerence and close ties among our people of various ethnic groups, cultures and religions,” she said.
This, she added, has given a solid foundation for Sarawak to progress further for the future.
On PMM’s 65th anniversary which will be celebrated next year, Rosey expressed hope that the association would grow stronger and more relevant.
PMM which was set up in 1959 currently has more than 500 members.
“An association plays a crucial role as the voice of its members and a platform that unites them,” Rosey said.
At the event, education incentives were also presented to PMM members’ children who excelled in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2022.
A total of seven students received the incentives which were presented by Rosey.
Among those present were Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man, Minister for Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development II (Entrepreneur Development) Dr Ripin Lamat, political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Sarkawi Suhaili, Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang and his deputy Ariffin Mohamad, Temenggong Datuk Abdul Rahman Abang Fadzail and PMM chairman Radzali Alision. — DayakDaily
