KUCHING, July 24: The federal government plans to increase Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance in the near future to help Malaysians cope with the rising cost of living.
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the move followed public feedback and concerns, even though the government has already introduced various forms of assistance.
“Although we have provided Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA, have all the problems been resolved? Not yet.
“That is why we have listened to the people’s concerns and, Insya-Allah, we will further increase SARA for everyone in the near future,” he said during a Pakatan Harapan campaign rally in conjunction with the Negeri Sembilan election in Seremban on Thursday (July 23), as reported by Bernama.
Anwar recently said the Madani government would continue to assess the possibility of increasing assistance, including STR and SARA, if the country’s economic conditions allow.
He said the matter had been discussed with Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican and would be considered in the upcoming Budget 2027. — DayakDaily
