KUCHING, July 23: The government is expected to table the 2027 Budget in Parliament in early October.
In a TVS News, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said preparations for the fiscal plan are currently underway, with the government having recently begun the drafting process.
“Budget 2027 is currently being formulated. We have only just started work on it,” he told reporters after attending the Humane Economy Global Discourse 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) today.
Also in attendance was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
Earlier, in his address at the event, Anwar emphasised that Budget 2027 would remain anchored to the core principles of the Malaysia Madani framework, despite the economic challenges confronting the government.
“The budget must balance economic growth priorities with broader national objectives, including economic policy reforms, the national semiconductor strategy, energy transition initiatives, and digital transformation efforts,” he said.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of strengthening moral values in governance and ensuring that ethical considerations continue to guide national development.
Budget 2026, tabled last year, allocated RM470 billion, making it the largest federal budget in Malaysia’s history.
Looking ahead, Budget 2027 is expected to address a range of economic headwinds, including the effects of global geopolitical tensions.
Particular attention is likely to be given to developments in the Middle East, where ongoing conflicts could have implications for energy markets, inflationary pressures, the cost of living, and overall economic growth. — DayakDaily
