KUCHING, Aug 10: The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has allocated 70 fibreglass boats to Sarawak divisions, through the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in preparation for the upcoming northeast monsoon.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian while expressing gratitude to NADMA for the boats, hoped that NADMA would also channel additional allocations in the form of disaster aid to Sarawak.
He said this during the symbolic handover of the fibreglass boats by NADMA and officiating of Sarawak State Disaster Management and Operation Coordination Workshop at a local hotel here yesterday (Aug 9).
The workshop involved 125 officers and members from the secretariat and response agencies under SDMC as stipulated under National Security Council Directive No. 20: National Disaster Management Policy and Mechanism.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Local Government and Housing, hopes that more disaster-related programs can be held in the future, taking into account the vastness of Sarawak and disaster frequency throughout the year. — DayakDaily
