KUCHING, April 1: The general public should maintain protective practices for the long run now that Sarawak is transitioning to endemic normalcy, reminded Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

Supporting the Sarawak government’s decision to move to the next phase in the fight against Covid-19, he said this was possible as a result of the high vaccination rate in Sarawak, including the booster dose vaccination rate where 89.19 per cent of the eligible people have been inoculated, thus helping to reduce the infection rate in the State.

“The Covid-19 pandemic which plagued the country over the past two years has claimed many lives and threatened the local economy. Many lost their source of income and many businesses were affected.

“Currently, efforts are being made by the State and Federal governments to revive the economy and also ensure the health and safety of the people,” he said in a statement today.

Fazzrudin pointed out that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in particular has spent RM5.6 billion to implement Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) in eight packages over the past two years.

“The State government has also formulated the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) to ensure economic recovery until 2030 based on social inclusiveness and environmental sustainability.

“The Sarawak government has hit the ground running after the Sarawak State Election in December last year. It had launched the PCDS 2030 Action and Implementation Plan (AIP) in February to ensure smooth implementation of the State’s recovery strategy,” he added.

Fazzrudin expressed confidence that more initiatives will be introduced to ensure the development of Sarawak as well as the welfare of the people to help aid recovery after Covid-19.

“Despite the transition, I would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant against the threat of Covid-19 where daily infections still occur within the local community.

“We must not underestimate the health and safety of ourselves and our families. I call on all sections of the community to continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC),” he urged.

Fazzrudin also hopes that the community will abide by the recommendations of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) in the future to curb the spread of Covid-19, which is important to stay safe and ensure people’s health moving into this endemic transition phase. — DayakDaily
