Father fined RM1k, sentenced to 6 months in jail for slapping 6yo son

KUCHING, March 24: A 37-year-old man was sentenced to a jail term of six months and a fine of RM1,000 to a charge of intentionally slapping his six-year-old son.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali sentenced Sufian Lamat to an imprisonment term of six months and a fine of RM1,000 or in default to two months imprisonment after Sufian pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same Code.


Sufian was found voluntarily causing hurt to his 6-year-old son at their house in Matang, at about 1.30pm on Feb 17.

It was the mother of the accused who lodged a police report after she heard from the victim’s 13-year-old sister that the accused had slapped her brother.

The complainant also found that the victim had almost fainted after being slapped by the accused.

This was not the first time the accused voluntarily caused hurt to his children, and it was reported that he would carry a hammer and knife with him at all times.

The complainant also suspected the accused was abusing drugs.
