3yo boy with cerebral palsy among 2 Covid-19 fatalities with 1,400 cases today

KUCHING, March 24: A 3-year-old boy with cerebral palsy was among the two Covid-19 related deaths reported in Sarawak today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the deceased, who is from Miri also had chronic lung disease, passed away in Miri Hospital.

Another death was reported in Kuching where a 85-year-old man was brought-in-dead (BID) to Sarawak General hospital with hypertension and heart disease.


Meanwhile, Sarawak logged 1,400 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 292,859.

Of the new cases, six were classified under Category 5 with lung infections and requiring ventilation, two in Category 4 with lung infections and requiring oxygen, and two in Category 3 with lung infections, while 911 cases are in Category 2 with mild symptoms and 479 cases in Category 1 are asymptomatic.

On the breakdown of cases by districts, Kuching recorded the most cases with 564, followed by Miri (176), Bintulu (111) and Sibu (110).

New cases were also reported in Samarahan (53), Sri Aman (50), Serian (45), Bau (44), Sarikei (38), Mukah (22), Betong (18), Limbang (18), Kabong (12), Saratok (12), Asajaya (12), Lubok Antu (11), 10 each in Matu, Pusa and Simunjan (10), Dalat (9), Lundu (7), six each in Kanowit, Julau and Subis, five each in Meradong and Telang Usan, four each in Pakan, Lawas, Belaga and Tatau, two each in Kapit, Beluru, Tebedu, while only one case each in Marudi, Song and Selangau.

As of today, no new clusters were reported and eight active clusters remain in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
