Father and son arrested for robbing convenience store with samurai sword

KUCHING, March 7: A father and his son were arrested by the police on suspicion of conspiring to commit armed robbery with a samurai sword on a convenience store in Jalan Sultan Tengah, here on March 3.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the two suspects, aged 37 and 65, were arrested at two separate locations in Taman Sourabaya Indah and Bandar Baru Semariang.

He said the police also managed to seize the weapon used during the incident, which was the sword as well as clothes and vehicles used during the crime.


“Both suspects were remanded under Section 117 of the Penal Code of Criminal Procedure for seven days for further investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code,” Ahsmon said in a statement.

He explained that if convicted, the offenders may be whipped or imprisoned for up to 20 years.

“The result of further investigation found that the two suspects have no past criminal records.

“Nevertheless, preliminary urine test results found that the son tested positive for the drugs amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said. — DayakDaily
