Family of four, couple plead not guilty to drug charge

KUCHING, Jan 24: Six individuals claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today after they were charged with possessing dangerous drugs.

They pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Yusoff, who then fixed April 22-24, 2019, for trial.


The accused are Syally Jaharah Othman (first accused), Hew Yu Hock (second accused), Mohammad Safberi Saee (third accused), Hamdzah Mohamad (fourth accused), Nurshahira Natasha Mohammad Safberi (fifth accused) and Mohammad Norhaizammer Mohammad Safberi (sixth accused).

The first and third accused are husband and wife, while the fifth and sixth accused are their children. The second and fourth accused are husband and wife.

They are jointly charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code for possessing 37.63 grammes of methamphetamine on Nov 19, 2018, at about 2pm at the first bedroom of a house located at Taman Malihah.

The penalty is not less than five years’ imprisonment or life sentence and whipping of not less than 10 strokes upon conviction.

The second accused is represented by Francis Teron Kadap, while the others are not represented. DPP Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali prosecuted. — DayakDaily
