BAU, Dec 14: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will consult Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders about the extra public holiday for Christmas celebration in Sarawak.
He pointed out that he cannot simply decide on the public holiday as the matter must be discussed and needed to be referred to the state gazette.
“It would be no problem to approve if there is a slot for public holiday since Sarawak has been observing religious freedom and celebrating all festivals openly together,” he addressed the GPS Leaders with People programme in Krokong here today.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari has also brushed off claims circulating on social media, particular via Whatapp, that he had announced Dec 26 (Boxing Day) as additional public holiday for Christmas celebration in the state as fake news.
As reported in DayakDaily last night (Dec 14), an officer from the Chief Minister’s Office (SMO) confirmed that the message which has been making it rounds since evening yesterday (Dec 13) was a hoax.
Sarawak will continue to enjoy one day of holiday which is on Christmas Day (Dec 25).
The message in Bahasa Malaysia (BM) alleged that Chief Minister has this (Dec 13) afternoon at Wisma Bapa Malaysia announced two days public holiday on Dec 25 and 26, 2019.
It added that Sarawak became the second state to give additional public holiday for the Christmas celebration which is celebrated every Dec 25.
