KUCHING, Nov 4: Express buses and stage buses are allowed to operate with 100 per cent passengers’ capacity starting from tomorrow (Nov 5) onwards.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said the committee has agreed to allow express and stage buses to take 100 per cent passenger load based on the suggestions from the Transport Ministry.

The Transport Ministry in terms made the decision after taking into consideration of high Covid-19 vaccination rate in Sarawak, request from Sarawak Bus Transport Companies Association (SBTCA) and agreement of State Public Transport Committee (SPTC) reached during a meeting on Oct 21.

SDMC said express and stage bus services play a crucial role in spurring Sarawak’s economy especially transportation of goods and passengers.

The decision, the committee explained, was in preparation for the transition of Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan to Phase 4 whereby more social and economic activities will be allowed to operate then.

Nevertheless, express bus and stage bus operators as well as passengers are reminded to abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down by Health Ministry (MoH), National Security Council (MKN) and SDMC including the use of face mask, body temperature scan and checking in using the MySejahtera QR Code. — DayakDaily
