KUCHING, Feb 19: An express boat converted into a cruise ship for sightseeing in Sungai Rajang has the potential to become a new tourist attraction in Sibu.

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the cruise ship operator can work with local travel agencies to introduce tourists to the panoramic beauty along the longest river in Malaysia.

“This (cruise) ship will be a new venture and also an attraction for tourists while seeing the activities and the beauty of the Rajang River environment in Sibu,” he said when met by reporters when visiting the cruise ship at Passenger Terminal in Sibu, on Friday (Feb 18).

Lee also advised the cruise ship operator to prioritise the safety aspect of the passengers on board.

“I have also asked the officers of the Sarawak River Boards (SRB) to look into it,” he added.

Meanwhile, during the visit, Lee also handed over a permit to the ship operator to set the mandatory conditions for its passenger to wear safety jackets before boarding the ship as well as safety briefings. — DayakDaily
