KUCHING, Aug 27: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) has called for the new federal government to handle the transfer of teachers amicably as soon as possible.
The call was made by its president Adam Prakash Abdullah who implied that it can be smoothly done as Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin has been reappointed as the Minister of Education.
Therefore, he hoped to see all the education policies already in place and promises made by the previous federal Cabinet be continued.
“We would also like to see the one-off recruitment of DG 41 teachers be carried out by September to ease the problems of teacher shortage in schools especially in Sarawak.
“STU also hopes that the teachers’ welfare be looked into as well such as moving teachers’ quarters by the river banks to higher grounds to avoid being hit by flood quite regularly,” he said in a statement today.
Additionally, the Union hoped that the Ministry of Education (MOE) will come up with clear instructions and guidelines to ensure safe reopening of schools.
“STU would like to thank Dr Radzi Jidin for his past commitment to the MOE and hope that he will continue to lead the ministry well.
“STU wishes him the best of luck. We look forward to an early announcement on reopening of schools for the 2022 academic year,” he added. — DayakDaily
