KUCHING, Jan 11: Sibu expects to see a high number of new Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster in the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) report today.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting warned that the news is bad as more positive cases were confirmed this morning.

“I am closely monitoring the Covid-19 outbreak in Sibu district and in contact with the Health Department on the latest situation.

“There are more positive cases today from the Pasai Cluster confirmed this morning. Upon hearing the news, I checked with the Sibu Health Department and the news is bad,” he revealed in a Facebook post earlier today.

Adding on, he said it is within expectation that the outbreak in Sibu would get worse this week, before the situation can get better.

Noting that the novel coronavirus is everywhere on the streets now, Ting urged people in Sibu to practise extreme caution and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) strictly.

SMC itself, he said, had cancelled all meetings and their offices are off-limits to visitors now, while an official statement would be issued today about the closures of markets, parks, libraries and swimming pools.

“We never had such a bad outbreak (in Sibu) since the start of the MCO (Movement Control Order). I urge everyone to follow strict SOPs, wear masks, practise social distancing and sanitise your hands,” he said. — DayakDaily
