Ex-mosque chairman, treasurer claim trial to RM13,000 fund misuse charges

KUCHING, Oct 6: A former chairman and treasurer of a mosque committee in Pusa were charged in the Sessions Court here today with misappropriating RM13,000 in mosque funds five years ago.

The two accused, aged 52 and 57, pleaded not guilty to five charges read before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.

They are accused of acting together to withdraw RM13,000 belonging to the committee on five occasions at a bank kiosk in Betong between June and September 2020, without the knowledge or authorisation of other members.

Both were charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which provides for imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than five years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.

The court granted each accused bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties for each charge.

The case has been fixed for mention on Nov 24, 2025.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Yong Ann Nee appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented. – DayakDaily
