KUCHING, April 30: Event organisers have the right to require their participants to comply with certain Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) despite the lifting of many critical protocols by the government.

Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said organisers definitely can continue with previous practices for public safety.

“It’s like going into a restaurant, the owner can require all the customers to sanitise their hands before entering. This is definitely allowed.

“The owner has the right to do so, and it is also for the benefit of all,” he said during Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng’s Facebook live session today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim reminded the public not to be complacent with the relaxation of SOPs as the virus is still as dangerous and harmful.

He said until now, there are still Sarawakians dying from Covid-19 every week when some victims are young and without risk factors.

“So, let us all be careful. Don’t believe that Covid-19 infection is based on luck,” he warned. — DayakDaily
