KUCHING, Mar 3: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has declared a dividend rate of 5.50 per cent for conventional savings and 5.40 per cent for shariah accounts for 2023, both showing an increase from the previous year.
In 2022, EPF paid dividends of 5.35 per cent for conventional savings and 4.75 per cent for shariah accounts.
According to a news report published today by Free Malaysia Today (FMT), EPF chief executive officer (CEO) Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn announced the rates today at the press briefing on the retirement fund’s 2023 performance.
He explained that the higher rates were possible due to the strong performance of its foreign investments, which account for 38 per cent of total assets.
“In 2021, the dividends for conventional and shariah accounts were 6.1 per cent and 5.65 per cent, respectively, while in 2022, they were 5.35 per cent and 4.75 per cent, respectively.
“The highest dividends ever declared were 8.5 per cent from 1983 to 1987 and 8 per cent from 1988 to 1994,” read the news report. — DayakDaily
