BINTULU, July 16: People who have completed two doses of vaccine within two months and above will be exempted from pre-travel Covid-19 testing to enter Bintulu Division.

Bintulu Division Disaster Management Committee (Bintulu DDMC) chairman Jack Aman Luat announced this decision that was made during a meeting to coordinate Phase 2 of National Recovery Plan (NRP) yesterday.

“Those who have received their two doses of Covid-19 vaccine within two months and above will be exempted from the mandatory swab tests prior to entering Bintulu Division.

“However, this decision will be reviewed end of the month, depending on the Covid-19 situation in Bintulu Division,” he told a press conference which was reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Jack, who is also Bintulu Resident, added that those who intend to leave Bintulu or those transiting through the district will no longer need to undergo swab testing.

“However, police permit is still required for inter-district travel under the Phase 2 of NRP as movement across district and division is still not allowed,” he emphasised.

As of July 13, a total of 157,779 people or 78.32 per cent of the total 201,442 population in Bintulu Division have been vaccinated, while 67,124 people or 33.32 per cent have completed the second dose of vaccines.

In another development, Bintulu DDMC has proposed to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to reopen the economy sector in Bintulu from 6am to 9pm.

“We also suggested that the maximum number of passengers allowed in a private vehicle to be increased to three persons,” he said.
