KUALA LUMPUR, June 27: The Energy Security Ordinance and Carbon Ordinance will be brought to the Sarawak Cabinet for discussion by the end of this year, says Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESTY) Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
He said every country in the world must have the necessary ordinances to allow carbon capture and storage (CCS) and and to venture into hydrogen trading and production just like United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea and Japan.
He also mentioned that these two ordinances would be separate from the recently amended Sarawak Land Code.
“Because we (Sarawak) have a law — Natural Resources and Environment Ordinance (NREO) 1958 where we can consolidate and enforce our own laws outside of the federal’s; where we can be on our own.
“This will be presented in the Sarawak Cabinet by December this year,” he said when met at the Energy Asia 2023 conference held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here today.
Earlier, Dr Hazland was one of the speakers for a parallel session titled ‘Politics & Policies: Building Bridges and Removing Barriers’ at the Energy Asia 2023 conference alongside Razman Hashim, senior vice president for Group Legal and Group General Counsel of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas); Allison Flower, senior energy advisor of International Energy Unit; Abdul Razib Dawood, chief executive officer of Energy Commission; and Tim Rockell, managing director of Energy Strat Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore. — DayakDaily
