KUCHING, Aug 3: Emily Renya Lenggang from Sri Aman stole the spotlight as she was crowned Ratu Sarikei Festival 2025 in a dazzling ceremony held at the Main Stage of the Sarikei Festival, in the carpark of Dewan Suarah Sarikei last night (Aug 2).
Jatitup Nyambar from Kanowit claimed second place while Rosiah Arbi from Meradong took third.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, all three winners walked away with cash prizes: RM2,000 for the winner, RM1,500 for the first runner-up, and RM1,000 for the second runner-up, along with a crown, trophy, sash, and bouquet as symbols of their achievement.
The prizes were presented by Datin Asiah Awai, wife of Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Sarawak and Kuala Rajang assemblyman Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
With the theme ‘Etnik Kreatif Kontemporari’ (Ethnic Contemporary Creativity), the pageant drew 10 participants from various districts including Sarikei, Bintulu, Sibu, Kanowit, Pakan, Sri Aman, and Meradong.
The adoption of the ethnic creative contemporary theme aligned with the overarching message of Sarikei Festival 2025, titled ‘Unite in Culture, Rich in Heritage’, which emphasises unity through cultural diversity.
The pageant was open to women aged between 18 and 30 and featured a vibrant showcase of ethnic-inspired attire reflecting Sarawak’s rich multi-ethnic heritage.
More than 1,000 people attended the event, making it one of the highlights of this year’s festival.
Also present were Sarikei Division Resident Datu Michael Ronnie Langgong, Deputy Resident Badjuri Bidin and Sarikei District Officer representative Ainur Yazmin Zaini.
Sarikei Festival 2025 continues to serve as an important platform to celebrate the arts, showcase ethnic heritage and promote unity among Sarawak’s diverse communities. — DayakDaily
