KUCHING, July 18: Belaga District should be elevated to Sarawak’s 13th division, says Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chief Senator Abun Sui Anyit.
He stated that he has been closely following the development efforts by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Recently, I am drawn to his explanation on imagining Serian Division as the mini New Zealand of Sarawak. Congratulations to Serian folk.
“If Serian is to become the mini New Zealand, we the people of Belaga district, would want the district to become the 13th division,” he said in a statement today.
Abun Sui further shared that during his encounter with the Premier on the second day of Raya Aidilfitri (April 10), they had agreed to a later discussion to elevate Belaga as a division.
“I believe the Premier will realise the hope of Belaga people in the near future,” he added.
In view of Nusantara being rapidly developed in Kalimantan, Indonesia, Abun Sui said Belaga which is Sarawak’s largest contributor of electricity adjacent to the archipelago, should be developed along with other divisions in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
