Election Commission sets Sabah polling day on Nov 29, nomination on Nov 15

KUCHING, Oct 16: The Election Commission (EC) today announced that the 17th Sabah State Election will be held on Nov 29 to fill all 73 seats in the State Legislative Assembly.

In a TVS news, EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said nomination day has been set for Nov 15 (Saturday) and early voting on Nov 25.

“In conjunction with this, applications for all categories of postal voting, both domestic and overseas, are now open,” he said during a press conference following a special EC meeting on the Sabah Election at Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex in Kota Kinabalu today.

Ramlan said the campaign period will run for 14 days, beginning from the announcement of candidates on Nov 15 until 11.59pm on Nov 28.

He added that the Electoral Roll to be used for the election will be the Supplementary Electoral Roll for August 2025, updated as of October 2025.

A total of 1,784,843 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots, comprising ordinary voters, police personnel, and their spouses.

To conduct the election, the EC will appoint 25 returning officers and 156 assistant returning officers across Sabah.

In addition, 86 Election Campaign Enforcement Teams will be established to monitor campaign activities, comprising representatives from the police, local authorities, and contesting candidates.

The 16th Sabah Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Oct 6, with official notification received from Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya on Oct 7. — DayakDaily
