KUCHING, Aug 25: Two swindlers ran off with RM10,000 in cash and jewellery after deceiving a 70-year-old woman in a face-to-face fraudulent scheme offering welfare assistance and investment with high returns in Miri.
According to a police statement, the 40-year-old daughter of the elderly victim, who works as a saloon assistant, lodged a police report regarding the incident on August 23.
The elderly woman was visited at her home by two unknown men who offered welfare assistance and lucrative investment opportunities with high returns.
Subsequently, the victim divulged her personal information, including her identification card and bank details, and additionally handed over cash and jewellery items worth approximately RM10,000 to these unidentified men.
While the victim briefly left the room to attend to matters in the kitchen, the two suspects promptly fled with the cash and jewellery.
At this point, the woman came to the painful realisation that she had fallen victim to a fraudulent act. — DayakDaily
