Elderly woman impaled on spiked railing

Paramedics checking on the victim's condition

SIBU, Feb 13: An elderly woman attempting to climb over a metal gate with spiked railing at her house just so she could go out this morning, ended up in the hospital instead.

The 72-year-old suffered thigh injuries when she slipped during the climb, causing two spikes to pierce her in the leg.

According to Fire and Rescue department operations centre, they received the distress call at 10.31am and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at Lorong Indah Borat 1B.

They found the victim sitting on the spiked fence, unable to move.

Using special rescue tools, firefighters successfully cut the fence spikes and lifted her down before putting her on a stretcher.

Hospital paramedics were also at the scene to assist.

One of the victim’s children said their mother suffered dementia and became disoriented when she was outside the home, leading them to lock the gate to ensure she did not leave the house. —DayakDaily
