SIBU, Dec 21: A 74-year-old woman in Sarikei endured an agonising wait of five hours lying on the bathroom floor next to the toilet with her right hand stuck in a drain hole yesterday (Dec 20) afternoon.

It was learned that the elderly woman was home alone when she accidentally fell in the bathroom and gotten her hand trapped in the sink hole at her home in Eng Tai Road at the time of the incident.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Mahmudin Narudin said the woman’s neighbours only came to know of the incident at around 7.45pm.

“Her neighbour suspected something was not right as she did not see her since 5pm. The neighbour then checked into her home and found her trapped in a water hole in her bathroom,” he added.

Her concern neighbours immediately made a distress call to the Bomba station for help.

Mahmudin said firefighters had to break the bathroom floor tiles using a cement breaker in order to remove the victim’s hand from the hole.

“It took almost two hours for firefighters to free the woman’s hand. The operation was completed at 10.12pm,” he said.

The victim was immediately brought to the hospital for further treatment and medical examination.— DayakDaily
