KUCHING, June 29: A 77-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding crashed with a car along the Betong-Sarikei-Meradong route of the Pan Borneo Highway at 2pm on Saturday (June 28).
According to the Sarikei District Police Chief, Supt Aswandy Anis, initial investigations revealed that the victim was heading from Sarikei to Sungai Rusa when he suddenly changed lanes from left to right without using his turn signal.
“At the same time, a car driven by a 30-year-old woman from Kuching to Sibu was also on the right lane. The driver was unable to react in time (when the victim suddenly changed lanes) and crashed into the motorcycle from behind,” he said in a statement.
The victim was pronounced dead at the location by paramedics from Sarikei Hospital at 2.20pm, whereas the driver was unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.
