BAU, Oct 7: A 63-year-old man with a heart condition was found lifeless after failing to return home yesterday (Oct 6) after venturing into the forest along Jalan Jugan Buso here to forage vegetables.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak received a report of the elderly man’s disappearance at 7.55pm on Friday and a team of firefighters from the Bau Station was immediately mobilised.
The elderly man was reported to have entered the woods at 5pm on Friday to gather vegetables but failed to return home as night fell.
Concerned family members initiated a search but only located his motorcycle by the roadside.
A search and rescue operation was launched at 9pm, involving other agencies and two family members. They covered a radius of 400 metres from the main road.
Unfortunately, the operation had to be postponed at 10pm that night when they were unable to locate the victim. Plans were made to resume the operation the following morning.
Unfortunately, at around 7.30am today, family members found him unconscious about 150 metres from the road.
Paramedics on the scene confirmed his passing. The deceased’s remains were transferred to the police for further investigation. — DayakDaily
