Elderly lorry driver infects 38, giving rise to Sg Anus longhouse cluster

KUCHING, April 19:  A 69-year-old lorry driver from Sungai Anus (Sg Anus), Selangau who tested Covid-19 positive has infected 38 others, giving rise to a new longhouse cluster.

The lorry driver went for a swab test at Selangau Health Clinic on April 5, as a pre-travel screening before he embarked on a journey to Bintulu District.


His swab test returned positive for Covid-19 on April 9. The index case did not show any signs or symptoms of the pandemic, according to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today.

The results of further investigation and active case detection among family members and casual contacts to the index case at the longhouse reported double digit positive cases.

For this case, a total of 51 individuals were screened.  As many as 39, including the index case, have reported positive while 12 individuals were found to be negative on first screening.

All cases tested positive for Covid-19 were referred to Sibu Hospital and quarantine and treatment centres for Covid-19 (PKRC) in Sibu District for isolation and further treatment.— DayakDaily
