BAU, March 15: Eight villages in Bau are set to receive improved water supply access next year, thanks to an RM2 million project under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep announced the successful handover of the one-year project, which involves the installation of 11.3 kilometers of sub-main pipes in Kampung Segong, Kampung Jambusan, Kampung Bau Lama, Kampung Skibang, Kampung Grogo, Kampung Sibuluh, Kampung Suba Bau, and Kampung Suba Buan.
The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 300 residents.

“The issue in these areas is the lack of sub-main pipes. Residents living deep within the villages often face low water pressure or pipe damage due to the long distance from the mainline.
“With this initiative, we are providing sub-main pipes to every area that lacks a main pipeline, reducing costs and improving water access,” he told reporters during a visit to Kampung Serikin here today.
For Kampung Serikin, he said 55 homes are now connected to treated water supply following the recent completion of a 1.4-kilometer sub-main water pipe.
In addition, he said Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) has connected approximately 100 existing homes to the new system.
“With this new approach, villagers no longer need to apply for standpipes or meters from JBALB.
“The system now directly connects to the standpipe and meter, allowing residents to link their homes to the meter with ease,” he added.
Nearly 100 per cent of homes in Kampung Serikin now have access to treated water, with only a few homes near the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex awaiting connection. – DayakDaily
