KUCHING, March 7: A total of 222 out of 3,227 one-off specially recruited teachers who were given placements in Sarawak have failed to report for duty or rejected the offer as of Sept 30 last year.
The Ministry of Education said the 3,227 one-off teachers included 2,621 permanent teachers and 606 teachers who were appointed on a contract basis for placement in Sarawak.
“The recruitment of teachers is carried out continuously from time to time depending on the availability of vacancies and the need for subject choices,” it said in a statement on Monday (March 6).
The ministry said Sarawak-born teachers are given priority to be placed in Sarawak based on vacancies available and subject option requirements.
The Education Ministry was responding to a question from Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi in Parliament, regarding the number of one-off and contract teachers who did not report for work or had rejected the offer to teach in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
